Web Servers
Because the web is increasingly a staging area for researchers to use, IGSP offers individuals and labs their own server space for websites. Also, web servers are available for web development and for "production," as is the practice with databases.
Personal web services some with server accounts, and they are activated automatically. Lab websites are available by request. Templated lab website designs are also available, and they have been made user friendly for quick implementation and updating.
All web servers use Linux as the operating system, running the Apache 2 web server. The commonly used CGI scripting languages are supported, and IGSP's IT staff can accommodate many needs for web services development on Unix/Linux. We have no Windows servers, and we do not support Microsoft-based languages, such as ".Net" or ASP.
If you have a web-based research project and you need server space or a web address, please contact IGSP IT. We can apply for web addresses within the genome.duke.edu domain or set up space within the context of tools.genome.duke.edu, depending on the purposes of your genome research project. Development server space is also available and typically does not require registration of a new hostname.
