Ornit Chiba-Falek, PhD

Assistant Professor, Track V, Medicine - Neurology

"In the genome era, nowadays, functional genomics is a great tool to identify disease causal variants that will provide insight into molecular mechanisms underling complex diseases and eventually will lead toward novel therapeutic approaches."

Ornit Chiba-Falek, PhD is an Assistant Research Professor in the Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine and the IGSP.

She received her Ph.D. from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem in 1999. Subsequently, she was a post-doctoral and then a research fellow in the lab of Dr. Robert Nussbaum at the National Human Genome Research Institute, where she applied functional genomics approach to study the role of alpha-synuclein (SNCA) in sporadic Parkinson's disease.

She joined the Duke faculty in the summer of 2007 and works with both the Center for Population Genomics & Pharmacogenetics and the Bryan Alzheimer's Disease Research Center.
